The Scandinavian Countries
(Denmark, Norway, and Sweden) have an inter-related
past and present. They share much of the same
history, culture and geography. Norway has a long
political relationship with Denmark. Additionally,
Norway has had a long love-hate relationship with
Sweden, it's closest neighbor.
Today,these countries are
still influenced by the geography of the
land.
Many of the traditions that
are evident in Norway are shared by all of the
Scandinavian countries. Additionally, some customs
vary from region to region iwithin a
country.
New York (Ellis Island): This was
the point of embarkation for almost all of the Scandinavian immigrants
of the late 1800's and early 1900's. Ellis island was an efficient
facility to control and process immigrants.
